ASME Foundation and NASA to Launch Future Engineers Program ASME Foundation and NASA to Launch Future Engineers Program ASME Foundation and NASA to Launch Future Engineers Program The ASME Foundation has banded together with NASA on another program that will allow K-12 understudies to structure things that could eventually be made on the International Space Station. Through the new program, Future Engineers, the space organization and the Foundation will build up a progression of 3D configuration difficulties and educational plans proposed to move understudies to illuminate certifiable investigation challenges. For the projects debut challenge, which dispatches in September, understudies will be approached to make 3D models explicitly intended to be utilized in space. The triumphant structure will be uplinked to a 3D printer on the International Space Station where the space explorers will print the part. Likewise, the triumphant understudy will be welcome to NASAs Payload Operations Center in Huntsville, Ala., to observe live as their thing is imprinted in space. Declared a month ago at the White House Maker Faire, the Future Engineers venture was brought about by a little group that included Deanne Bell, a mechanical architect, ASME part and science, innovation, building and math (STEM) advocate. Ringer, an individual from the ASME Foundations Board of Directors, concocted the thought for the opposition subsequent to viewing an online video about the 3D Printing in Zero G Experiment, a joint endeavor among NASA and Made in Space Inc. to dispatch 3D printing gear that can work in microgravity on the space station. Chime at that point moved toward Made in Space and Niki Werkheiser, NASA 3D Printing in Zero-G venture director, with her idea. Niki grasped my half-shaped thought for a solitary test and helped me incorporate it with the Future Engineers debut program - a multi-year arrangement of 3D space difficulties in a joint effort with NASA and the ASME Foundation, Bell said. As an ASME part myself, I realize that ASME has maybe the biggest system of cutting edge assembling and 3D plan specialists on the planet. It appeared as though the ideal fit for a program expected to show understudies how to 3D model their thoughts inside the setting of room producing. The ASME Foundation end up being an ideal decision, and their eagerness for the program was obvious from the very first moment. It is an understudy out there now who is amped up for the science reasonable or structuring new Lego manifestations or rehearsing for an up and coming math group rivalry. I can't understand a superior expertise to have than to have the option to get up one daytime envisioning another device or part that you need and having the current devices to plan it on your PC, print it, and be utilizing it by noon! A Zero-G Technology 3D exhibit printer will dispatch to the station in late-summer and will be the main printer to fly in space. It will deliver an underlying run of room station parts and devices to be tried, just as print the Future Engineers rivalries winning structure. A perpetual 3D printer, known as the Additive Manufacturing Facility, is being developed and is relied upon to be introduced on the ISS later on. Made in Space's Jason Dunn and Mike Snyder amass the 3D printer in their cleanroom. Chime noticed that a definitive objective of the program is to associate Future Engineers difficulties and educational program with teachers, galleries, after-school projects, and creator competent offices in nearby networks. What If Your Firm Doesnt Blog Or Use Social Media
Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers What if Your Firm Doesnât Blog or Use Social Media? It was 2010. I was on a cross-country tour of a large firm giving presentations and answering questions on blogging and social media. At the time, the conventional wisdom in this large firm was the firm should not be blogging or using social media tools. I was sent across country to try and change the conventional wisdom. If you are a regular reader, you might recall this story. I was sitting in a conference room with eight of the firm litigation practice group partners. I was there to answer their questions. The first question came from the youngest lawyer (about 40) in the room. Cordell, suppose our practice group decides not to blog and not to use social media, do you think we will be behind our competitors in five years? My response came to me right away. Suppose in the mid-90s your practice group told firm leaders that you did not want to be a part of the firm webpage, and you did not want to use email, do you think you would have fallen behind your competitors in five years? I think I made the point. But, the firm now has 10 blogs and litigation is not one of them. You and I both know that law firms, and lawyers, have never been early adopters. To get the idea, read a LexisNexis White Paper: PERSPECTIVES ON KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT IN LAW FIRMS. This White Paper covers knowledge management, but I believe some of the points are broader. It begins with: Since the beginning of the office technology boom in the 1980âs lawyers have been accused of being Luddites, fearful and reluctant to adopt modern technology. Lawyers are often compared unfavorably in this arena to accountants and even doctors. A more objective view of lawyers demonstrates that they will adopt effective technology with enthusiasm when the tools are appropriate for the professional tasks that they face. I had to look up the definition of Luddites. Here is what I found: 1. Any of a group of British workers who between 1811 and 1816 rioted and destroyed laborsaving textile machinery in the belief that such machinery would diminish employment. 2. One who opposes technical or technological change. In my career I can think of many lawyers and law firms who fall within the second definition. I will just mention one. Do you and your firm still have documents on WordPerfect? At my old firm, it took years before we abandoned WordPerfect for Word. What about lawyers? I know lawyers who: I could go on, but hopefully you can think of other examples. Last Monday, my friend and marketing guru, Eric Fletcher posted a guest post I wrote: For Greater Success, Try Something New and Different â" A Guest Post by Cordell Parvin. I wrote about ordering something new (Cassoulet Toulousain) that I would have never tried from a restaurant menu. I even gave a link to a recipe: Cassoulet in 10 Easy Steps. But, my guest post was not about ordering something new at a restaurant. My experience doing it last week in Montreal simply served to remind me that real breakthroughs in my career occurred when I tried something new and different as an early adopter. Take a look at Ericâs blog. I find it valuable because he stays on top of what is new and different in client development. Finally, I will leave you with this Seth Godin quote. Think about what kind of lawyer you want to be and become. You need to know conventional wisdom inside and out. NOT TO OBEY THE RULES, BUT TO BREAK THEM. I practiced law for 37 years developing a national construction law practice representing some of the top highway and transportation construction contractors in the US.
